tech gadgetsIn today’s world, technology plays a key role in our daily lives.  Honestly, I could not imagine my life without certain gadgets that seem to make my world spin or at least run a bit smoother.  I often find myself wondering what we all did before these gadgets came in and took over our lives, so here are a few gadgets that I can’t live without.  Okay, I guess I can sustain life, but I would really miss these tech gadgets.

Garmin GPS (any model)

I can remember learning how to read a map in grade school, and the task seems fairly easy.  But, when you’re driving down the interstate with cars zooming past you at 80MPH, it’s much easier to enter an address in the GPS, hit “Go” and get turn by turn directions to your destination.  I also love that the GPS devices offer options to help find alternate routes when needed and places of interest such as restaurants, which has always been a useful feature when I am traveling in unfamiliar areas.  Another feature that I would miss is the estimated time of arrival that GPS devices provide.  I often use this feature to help me with trip planning, and although the ETA may not be spot on, it is a helpful planning tool that a paper map doesn’t offer.

Smart Blu-ray Player

I use this gadget on a daily basis in my home.  Since purchasing a smart Blu-ray player, we have become cord-cutters and canceled our cable television and satellite services and primarily use Netflix and Hulu Plus to stream our favorite shows.  We pay small monthly fees for the use of these applications but still save tons of money compared to what we were paying our satellite and cable television providers.  We never have to worry about missing shows or setting a DVR, because the player’s applications archive the shows, and they are available when we are ready to watch.  At this point,  I never want to go back to a regular cable or satellite subscription.

Oldie but Goodie Desktop Computer

I know this may be a surprise item to end up on anyone’s can’t live without gadgets list, but I still secretly love my desktop computer (at times).  I like using the desktop when I have major work to get done.  Typing on a desktop is still so much easier and faster for me compared to a laptop or tablet.  Also, I don’t have to worry about battery life because unless there is a power outage, I am plugged into an endless power supply.  I feel like a desktop computer will always have a place in my home because although it is not mobile it does make my life easier.

iPad

My iPad has quickly become a favorite gadget for me.  The options seem endless on what you can do.  Simply access the App Store, and you are sure to find an application for your current need.  The device also has the battery life to back up browsing, gaming and watching movies for hours of enjoyment.   Currently, this is my go-to device for entertainment when traveling.  The Facetime application allows me to have “face time” with my children when I am away, which is why as a mom I could not live without this gadget.

Samsung Galaxy Smartphone

If anyone knows me, then he/she knows that I don’t leave home without my smartphone.  Smartphones also seem to have unlimited capabilities, and with each new phone that hits the market, the capabilities grow.  I would be lying if I didn’t say that I love my phone for the many applications that I have installed, but I actually still love it for simply making calls and for texting purposes.  I could not live without a means of communication, and my Samsung Galaxy smartphone offers that as well as the security of always being able to contact someone when needed.

You may argue that a smartphone can take the place of almost every gadget on my list, but I feel that the gadgets listed complete the task better for those activities and that is why I use each gadget.  In many cases, I have used my smartphone instead of my GPS or iPad, but these activities take up battery life that may be important for making a call later. What gadgets are important to your everyday life?
